Waiting for Godot

2017

Waiting for Godot is a tragicomedy play written by Samuel Beckett is primarily about hope. Just like the title, the two characters, Estragon and Vladimir, wait for unknown person Godot for the whole play and here Godot is referred to a hope they are waiting but never appears. Also, the play itself repeats the rough form of Act 1 and Act 2 that same characters comes and go in same order and all after the night comes. The play takes place outdoor where does not have such a significant thing other than a tree to recognize to where the place is and remember.

Except for the tree, all other significant landmark features are eliminated to set the uncertainty of character constantly questioning throughout the whole play, "what are we waiting for" Therefore, even the wall and the floor of the stage are smoothly curved out in order to get rid of any corners and significant shadows. The use of gray color of overall background illustrates the anonymous that isn’t clearly recognized but there’s no clear end to it also which is the color in between of white and black.
